Ambassador's Lecture for Denenchofu Midori Rotary Club

Mauritanian Ambassador to Japan, H.E.Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jaafar gave a lecture at Meeting of Denenchofu Midori Rotary Club on November 22, 2007 at the City Club of Tokyo. He made a 30 minutes of speech about Mauritania and presented the Mauritanian several aspects including today's oil industry, fishing industry and traditional fishing. During his lecture, Embassy's cook made a Mauritanian traditional tea for attendees to enjoy this Mauritanian culture.¡¡After the lecture, the dinner was offered by the Rotary Club and exchanged interesting opinions

Mauritanian Fisheries Minister visits Japan

Mauritanian Fisheries Minister H.E. Mr. Assane Soumare was invited to Japan by the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation (OFCF) from September 9 to 15, 2007. On September 11, signatures of Memorandum about the rehabilitation of fishery villages on the Mauritanian coast were exchanged between the OFCF and Mauritania. Also, signatures of contract of the Tuna fishing was exchanged between the Japan Tuna and Mauritania.

Mauritanian Minister visits to Japan

H.E. Mr. Mohamed Saleck OULD MOHAMED LEMINE, Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation visited Japan and had a meeting and diner with Japanese Minister, H.E. Mr. Taro ASO on August 10, 2007, and exchanged opinions about the relation of tow countries and strangthened their partnership. Before this meeting, the signatures exchanged for the ODA project of the construction of class rooms in Nouakchott and Nouadhibou.

Tender for Grant Aid

On July 9th, 2007, the tender for the food aid in fiscal year 2006 was held at the headquarters of Japan International Cooperation System and the Sojitz Coporation made a successful bid for the contract. This food aid is granted as one of grant aids of ODA for Mauritania who is suffering from the lack of food because of reasons such as increase of population, desertification, problem of desert locust and so on.

Lecture at the Yamamoto Gakko

Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jaafar made a lecture at the Yamamoto Gakko on May 18, 2007. Yamamoto Gakko is organized by Mr. Masanobu Yamamoto in order to offer an opportunity to exchange opinions and study about many fields for many kinds of people with active spirits such as students, professors, business and educational related men and women. This time Ambassador was invited as a guest speaker and made a lecture about Mauritania. A lot of interesting opinions were exchaned after the lecture.

Inaugural ceremony of new President

Inaugural ceremony of newly selected President, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, was held on April 19n and he took the oath of office as the President of Mauritania. From Japan, Mr. Hamada Masayoshi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs was present with many other Heads of States and representatives of international organisations.

Mauritanian New President was elected
Mr. Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi won at the second round of presidential election which was held on March 25, 2007. He received 53 percent of the vote against Mr. Ahmed Ould Dadda's 47 percent.

Special Seminar at Tsukuba University

The Special Seminar titles "Japan's Intellectual Partnership for the Stability and Development of North Africa: Issues and Perspectives" was organized by the Alliance for Research on North Africa of University of Tsukuba on March 20 at the campus' International Conference Room. Researchers of Tsukuba and invited speakers such as Professors of University of North Africa, guests from MOFA, MECSS, JBIC, JICA, H.E. Ambassadors of Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria made a speech. From the Embassy of Mauritania, Mr. Jarr Ould Inalla, Charge d'Affaires made a speech of bilateral relation between Japan and Mauritania.
