Miss Mai Kawabata was elected as Waseda Ambassador

Ambassador's lecture at Tokyo Ebara Rotary Club
Mauritanian Ambassador to Japan, H.E.Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jaafar gave a lecture at the General Meeting of Tokyo Ebara Rotary Club on October 12, 2005. He made a 30 minutes of speech about Mauritania, and at the same time, Embassy's cook made a Mauritanian traditional tea for Club's President H.E.Mr. Sumio Hino and all other members to enjoy Mauritanian culture.

Mauritanian Ambassador to Japan, H.E.Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jaafar gave a lecture at the Alliance for Research on North Africa (ARENA) of the University of Tsukuba on September 6, 2005. He lectured about various aspects of Mauritania including Culture, History, Politics, Economy and so on for researchers and students.

Mauritania NEWS
August 03 , 2005 , The Military Council for Justice and Democracy have come to power and have designated The Colonel Ely Ould Mohamed Vall as President.

The President of the Military council for justice and Democracy has then met with the heads of all diplomatic missions accredited to Nouakchott , all Mauritanian political actors including representatives of the PRDS – former ruling party-, representatives of the civil society , representatives of the syndicate organizations and representatives of the business community to explain to them the main reasons of the change and the new orientations.

The Colonel Ely Ould Mohamed Vall gave a summary of the complex crisis that was going to lead the country to a disastrous situation and then announced three main amendments to the current constitution and then suggested four consultative points to guarantee a real democracy in the country:

AMENDMENTS:

1 – Restriction to two presidential terms
2 – In consultation with political actors and representatives of the civil society, the number of years by term will be limited to { 4 , 5 or 6 }
3 – To resolve technically the incidence of article 104 of the constitution.

GUARANTEES

1– Neither the president of the Military council nor the members of the Military council, the actual Prime Minister and members of the governments will be allowed to run for any political position during the transitional period,
2 – Creation of an Independent Consultative Comity for the Supervision of the Elections
3 – Allow International Elections Supervisors from any country and from International organizations to come in Mauritania to judge of the elections transparency
4 – The Military Council will not support or endorse any political party till the end of the process

REMARK : At the end of the process , the Military Council for Justice and Democracy will be dissolved.
